Work On The Self
We, at Split Theatre, believe that everyone can use movement and play to uncover their unique places in society.
The Work On The Self is not just a programme.
It’s not merely a workshop for self-exploration, movement, and play.
It’s a creative practice that empowers you to ask important questions.
You will begin a journey that unleashes your power as a unique and significant person.
You will join a community with other unique individuals who are excited to live and love.
It’s time to move and play with care and intentionality, because you matter.

Why movement?
Movement reveals who we are: In our programmes, we explore how our experiences and interactions with others can affect the way we move. We will learn how social rules and perceptions affect our movement, and how we can develop more flexible and adaptable movements, so that we are more in line with who we are as unique individuals.
Movement is not limited by language: Movement can help us express things that are difficult to explain with words, like our complex feelings or beliefs. With movement, we can transcend socially constructed barriers (like language) to connect with other unique individuals.
Why play?
Going back to who we are: After “adulting” for some time, we may forget how to play. Our programmes are designed to help participants remember their “inner child” and relearn how to have fun once again. In so doing, participants will start to gain awareness of their bodies, mind, and souls once again.
Keeping the space safe and introspective: There is no “right” or “wrong” when we play. There is no “success” or “failure” for each game. Participants will get to explore their beliefs and values in a safe and supportive environment. We believe that uniquely different individuals can develop caring relationships in the same space.
This programme is supported by the National Youth Fund.
