Sreya’s Experience (Facilitator) [she/her]
My experience as a first-time facilitator for the WOTS programme:
To be completely honest, I did not go into the experience with any expectations either for myself, or for any of the participants. This proved to be greatly freeing for me, as I simply did not bring that burden into the space - I gave myself the freedom to experience things, and to move with the people in the room.
There was a rough outline in terms of what each week would entail.
First, we started with the warm ups - these movements encouraged the participants to get their bodies in a “flow” state of sorts, ready to receive whatever the next part of the program entailed.
Throughout the activities, the participants had a lot of questions. And rightfully so - after all, several of the concepts covered in the program would have been completely alien to them, unless they had prior encounters with the material.
However, I was heartened to how receptive they were to whatever we had to share with them. The way they took care of each other in the space - especially when they crafted their stories and personal truths, worked around each other’s needs, gently navigating tender spaces with great care.
I’m so proud of watching them grow to become authentic storytellers and humans, and of the final piece they’ve created.
