Activities for Split Theatre’s Work On The Self Programme:
Four Corners and Personalised Rhythms
Participants will learn a pattern sequence that requires you to run and leap at stipulated moments.
Everyone follows the same pattern, but how can you make the pattern sequence yours?
How can you uncover a rhythm that is unique to yourself?
If you are completing the pattern sequence with a partner, what adjustments would you want to make?
How can you partner with someone without losing your individuality?
How can you repeat the sequence without getting bored?
Plastiques, Corporeals, and Personalised Movement
Learn the forward roll and backward roll. What about some shoulder and head stands? Learn to draw circles with various parts of your body. What about putting it all together? Learn to move with a flow, catch the flow, pass on the flow, so that we can move together as a group of individuals.
How can you move for another person?
How can you move with another person?
How can you continue moving even when you are tired?
How can you pass on your energy to someone else, so that they can continue moving despite feeling fatigue?
How can you use your imagination to keep the movement going, keep the flow going, and help your body remember what you are capable of doing?
Note: for the Work On The Self programme, no prior movement experience is required.
Games
Remember playing games like blow-wind-blow when you were younger?
What if we could do that again - but with a twist?
What if we could revisit those times of fun, imagination, and play?
How can we use games to learn more about our selves?
How can we be constantly fascinated by what others have to offer in the space?
How can we take risks once again?
How can we catch the flow and run or jump freely again?
Are we taking ourselves too seriously?
When is it time to play once again?
Deep Conversations
After each activity, you’ll get to share your thoughts and experiences, and you’ll hear from the other participants too. Each time we interact with another person, we uncover something about ourselves. And that’s how we move - that’s how we empower ourselves to journey in life. It’s a unique journey of our own, but we don’t have to do this alone. We can do this together.
What can you learn from rolling around?
What can you learn from goofing around?
What can you uncover about yourself by listening to others?
What can you uncover about yourself as you celebrate your achievements and the achievements of others?
What are you afraid of?
What’s stopping you from giving your all?
What’s stopping you from participating?
What’s stopping you from learning?
What’s stopping you from being?
What’s stopping you from playing?
Depending on the decision of your batch, you may choose to end the programme (Parts I and II) with
(i) a private showcase (with invite-only guests),
(ii) an e-performance (where you’ll perform in front of a camera and get to keep the performance recording as a souvenir),
(iii) a public showcase (where tickets will be sold, and the show will be marketed on our social media platforms), OR
(iv) a simple (potluck?) celebration without external guests.
It’s really up to you - how you want to mark the end of your programme and how you want to celebrate the 10 weeks of working on your self through movement and actor training.
You’ll also be able to leave a trace on our online blog, where you’ll tell a story or share an experience, so that more people may see how movement in a studio can help us move further, move more freely, and move more playfully in our daily lives.
Note: This course has two parts and you’ll have the option to join us for just 5 weeks or get the full 10-week experience - find out more on our FAQ page and sign up for a spot here.
